Varroa Mite Counter Jar

The Varroa Mite Counter Jar is a reliable way to evaluate your mite levels.  Fill one side with 50-100ml of rubbing alcohol or windshield fluid, add 1/2 a cup of bees (about 300) and shake slowly for 90 seconds.    The alcohol kills the mites and they will fall off the bees and when you tip it the alcohol and the mites will pour into the other side where you can count them.  You can also use this jar for the same technique using powdered sugar if you prefer.
